Winter Blues

by The World Provider

/

about

A song that tries to capture the melancholy and mixed feelings many of us have about the holiday season. Recorded by remote collaboration during the 2020 lockdown. All proceeds go to Dans la rue and Head & Hands, Montreal organizations helping disadvantaged youth.

lyrics

Family is crazy, that’s no breaking news
Hearing those carols gives me winter blues
Soak them in gravy and drown them in booze
’Cause we’re driving each other all mad

I like the snow and the colourful lights
The warmth of the fire on a cold winter’s night
Somehow I wish we could just get it right
’Stead of making each other feel bad

So every year I tell myself
“Maybe this time I’ll stay home”
But the only thing worse than being together
Is sitting around all alone

Snowflakes melt on windows and tears freeze on cheeks
It’s just a few days, but we dread it for weeks
Temperatures rise every time that we speak
So we bottle it all up inside
And ask ourselves why…

Oh why do we do this,
Do we chew this bitter pill?
I guess it’s ’cause we love each other still.
